Dear All Our Friends at the BTCC,
You have always been so kind to us and while we hate to impose, at your request here is what we are currently faced with. Any help is appreciated.

Seven middle and elementary schools in lower Houma were flooded for Hurricane Ike. Some schools suffered more damage than others, but the majority of schools suffered enough damage that left the classrooms bare of essential supplies. Six of these seven schools will be reopening this week, with extremely bare necessities for instruction.

Considering that most of the teachers and students homes were flooded as well, these teachers and students are in need of basic school supplies.

As educators and students, we understand that we very often purchase basic supplies using our own funds. Teachers also spend years collecting trade books for their classroom libraries; they often pay for small incidentals needed to implement lessons such as colored pencils, paper, rulers, scissors, glue, etc. Students also have to supply some of these materials at the beginning of the year-all of which are now ruined.

The following list provides possible donation items:

Looseleaf Paper, Drawing Paper, Construction Paper, Marble Composition Books, Notebooks, Tape, Colored Pencils, Markers, Colors, Pencils, Pens - Various Colors, Scissors (rounded ends), Paper Clips, Plastic Pocket Folders, Binders , Erasers, Dry Erase Markers, Kleenix, Paper Towels, Baby Wipes, Trade Book Covers, Zipper Pencil Case or Plastic Pencil Box, Index Cards - Various sizes, Highlighters, Rulers, Post-it Notes, File Folders, Manila Envelopes, Science supplies such as posters, charts, and experiment equipment, Social Studies supplies such as maps, charts, and videos, Math supplies such as calculators, manipulatives, etc., Bulletin Board Materials, Picture and Trade Books in useable condition, Flashcards (math facts, sight words), Educational Games

The Bernards Township "Regional" Chamber of Commerce would again like to express our deepest thanks to all who have donated to this great town. Your help is appreciated more than words can express!!
